Dextran is synthesized from sucrose by certain lactic acid bacteria. it is a complex branched glucan, polysaccharide made up of many glucose molecules. composed of chains of varying lengths (from 3 to 2000 kilodaltons). Dextran is used medicinally as an antithrombotic, antiplatelet, to reduce blood viscosity, and as a volume expander in hypovolaemia.
Dextran is white powder; odorless, tasteless. This product is soluble in hot water, insoluble in ethanol and very slightly soluble in alcohol. molecular weight 32000~42000. Quality Standard: Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2015/ European Pharmacopoeia 8.0/British Pharmacopoeia 2010.
