5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan), also named Griffonia Simplicifolia Seed Extract, is derived from seeds of Griffonia simplicifolia. Griffonia simplicifolia is a plant growing in western African countries such as Ghana, Ivory Coast and Togo. 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is an amino acid that is the intermediate step between tryptophan and the important brain chemical serotonin. It is off-white fine powder and insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol. 5-HTP is mainly used as an herbal supplement for antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid. It also can be used in anti-hypochondria, weight loss, relieving PMS, curing hemicrania and abstaining from addiction.
