Homotaurine (3-amino-1-propionate or tramiprosate) is an amino sulfonic acid isolated from tongue centipede algae (Grateloupia livida). It is similar to taurine, but has one more submethyl group than taurine. It is GABA ergic due to its structural similarity to the neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyrate (GABA). Homotaurine was found as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease, preventing memory loss and cognitive loss triggered by amyloid.

Homotaurine similarity in structure to the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), it has GABAergic effects and may be useful as an anticonvulsant. Homotaurine has also been investigated as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease. It binds to soluble amyloid beta and inhibits the formation of neurotoxic aggregates that lead to amyloid plaque deposition in the brain.
