Adenosine 5'-diphosphate (ADP) is adenine nucleotide that is converted into ATP through ATP synthase, which is involved in energy storage and nucleic acid metabolism. ADP affects platelet activation by interacting with ADP receptors P2Y1, P2Y12 and P2X1. When it is catalyzed to adenosine by theecto-ADP enzyme, platelet activation is inhibited by adenosine receptors.

Disodium adenosine diphosphate is ADP. It is the earliest discovered and the most important platelet aggregation inducing substance in the body. It exists in the high-density particles in the blood cells, and is released when the platelet coagulates. ADP affects the shape and biological behavior of platelets through ADP receptors on platelets, and further accelerates the aggregation process of platelets. It is generally used in biochemical research, determination of pyruvate kinase activity, preparation of polynucleotide and so on.
